Make up has been used over the centuries to basically enhance beauty. Its primary function is accentuating the features of the face to make for a more striking form. The main components of a make up kit are lip stick, foundation and blusher or rouge, mascara and eye shadow. Many people now include lip gloss to this list as an essential.Historically make up has played a part in human life since Ancient Egypt but this type of make up was applied in a more theatrical fashion rather than what we see today. Today everyday make up users try to achieve a more natural look saving the razzmatazz for evenings or social occasions. Transvestites in theatre apply lots of make up often stepping over the line to the ridiculous but this is done purposefully as it is all part of the act. One famous male make up wearer is Michael Davies the infamous cabaret star of Morecambe in England. Davies paved the way in the sea side clubs in the North for many misunderstood men to openly wear make up in public; and in turn opened the flood gates in the North of England for men to use make up when ever and where ever they pleased.
More women than men wear make up on a day to day basis and in the twenty first century the idea is to create a youthful look, full lips, large eyes and eye lashes with high cheek bones and a defined nose is the order of the day. But it can go wrong without proper guidance, note when young girls apply make up to look older but end up looking ridiculously 'caked', youth is wasted on the young after all. Or when a poor soul has never been shown how to apply make up properly and ends up looking more like Coco the clown than a Chanel model. Colour Me Beautiful has been set up to help people who need assistance in the mine field that is make up application.
